St Matthews Community Hero Award We are so very pleased to award a very special person Ghada Elazabi St Matthews very first community hero award. She received 14 nominations from members of the community who hold her in the highest regards. She was instrumental in setting up and running of the women's cafe and making it such a great success, she has helped her neighbours throughout lockdown with practical support and a listening ear. We were pleased on behalf of the community to present her with flowers, a certificate and a £50 gift voucher for a local restaurant. Well done Ghada.

At St Matthew's Big Local we are committed to inclusion and we are constantly working hard to provide opportunities to everyone. We are particularly proud of a project that we have been running this year funded by Sport England we now have 10 committed volunteers who are running sports sessions with their community. The programme has broken down barriers and helped people have healthier and happier lives. The global pandemic had raised challenges but with the dedication of the coaching staff and volunteers this project has been a massive success. We now need to find significant funding for the project to continue and developed in 2021. Please get in touch if you can help support this wonderful project.

Sudais was a regular at our #PLKicks session in St Matthews. His talent was recommended to Leicester City by our coaches and the rest is history. Follow his journey from humble beginnings to hopeful football star.

We promoted the St Matthews Big Local with a week of community wide activities and consultation. This involved many groups and people across the St Matthews Big Local Area. Take a look and see what we got up to.

Responding to residents consultation to improve road safety in St Matthews. Funding was agreed to help repair and service bikes, fund new helmets, new D-Locks and Light. The local police team security marked the bikes. A great day was had by all and over 60 young people benefited from the event.

On 17th October 2016 St Matthews Big Local organised a trip to Twinlakes theme park. Over 100 member of the community came along and had a great day. Lot of food, fun and new friendships were made. The event was funded by The National Lottery.

St Matthews (Leicester) Community comes together for a trip to Skegness. Over 230 resident joined the trip and made new friendships.
