St Matthew's Community Hero Awards

Awards will be made every month.

Our community’s strength is the people within it. We know that many people on St Matthew's go above and beyond to support and help the local community, with little to no recognition for this. That’s why we’re launching ‘St Matthew's Community Heroes’, to shine a light on those local heroes who are the backbone of our community. We want to give you the opportunity to nominate a friend, neighbour, local organisation, or someone you know, whom you think deserves to be treated for their hard work and selflessness.

Every month St Matthew's Big Local will review the nominations, to decide who the winner is. For example, this may be someone who has engaged in a community initiative, helped out a neighbour in need, or even just provided a listening ear when somebody needed it the most. We really want to hear your stories and celebrate your successes.

The winner will be awarded a small gift and a certificate to say 'Thank you' for going that extra mile.

We will also post a picture of the winner on our social media channels and website and a small story of why they are our Community Hero.

St Matthews Community Hero Award. (Sept 2020)

We are so very pleased to award a very special person Ghada Elazabi St Matthews very first Community Hero award.

She received 14 nominations from members of the community who hold her in the highest regards.

She was instrumental in setting up and running of the women's cafe and making it such a great success, she has helped her neighbours throughout lockdown with practical support and a listening ear.

We were pleased on behalf of the community to present her with flowers, a certificate and a £50 gift voucher for a local restaurant.

Well done Ghada.

St Matthews Community Hero Award. (Oct/Nov 2020)

Well done to Kamran Hasmani who was nominated for St Matthew's Community Hero and is one of our two heroes this month.

We were pleased to award Kamran with a £50 gift voucher and a certificate as a small token of our appreciation for what he does locally.

One nominee said, "I would like to nominate Kamran based on his support with the local community during these unprecedented times and putting himself at risk. During the Covid lockdown, Kamran went out of his way to ensure he aided his local community with food parcels. Kamran is an individual who lives and breathes for his local community St Matthew's.

St Matthews Community Hero Award. (Oct/Nov 2020)

This month we have a second St Matthew's Community Hero - Warda.

Warda is highly respected and has been nominated by several members of the community. She has been particularly recognised by members of the Women’s Cafe who describe her as being, ‘Friendly, supportive and very helpful’.

Congratulations Warda! We hope you enjoy the gift voucher and thanks for all you do to make St Matthew's a better place for everyone.

St Matthews Community Hero Award. (Dec 2020)

Congratulations to our two worthy St Matthews Community Heroes for December.

Chris Dee received nominations from the community for his dedication to supporting local residents through his bike repair business and the works he has done over the past few years in helping to co-ordinate and support the smooth running of St Matthews Park Day. Chris can often be seen around our community with a cheery smile. A well-deserved winner.

St Matthews Community Hero Award. (Dec 2020)

Rebecca (Who's very camera shy) received a nomination for her hard work and dedication to volunteering in our community. Despite her busy family, she always finds time to help with numerous projects, especially the St Matthews foodbank. She always works diligently and without fuss. Thank you for all you do Rebecca and well done.
