St Matthews Big Local (Leicester) is pleased to announce that one of the estates former PCSOs will be running the Virgin Money London Marathon on 26th April 2020.

Nicky Whitehead now a Police Officer worked on the Estate for many years and has kindly agreed to run the London Marathon to raise funds for our charity.

St Matthews Big Local works to improve the lives of the residents of St Matthews, one of the most deprived estates in the country.

Our vision is to make St Matthews a place:

·      which is cleaner and greener

·      where everyone is appreciated, valued and respected

·      where everyone can reach their potential and local businesses flourish

·      where everyone feels safe and secure

·      where we can celebrate diversity, talent and creativity

You can help us to achieve this vision and reach our target of £2,246 by donating, no matter how big or small.

Nicky Whitehead said,‘ In April 2020 I will be running the London Marathon 2020.  I am a keen runner and have completed several marathons starting with Milton Keynes where I finished in 3:28 in the following years I went on to hit 3:12 two years on the trot in an attempt to get 3:05 for a good for age entry into London. I will be aiming to beat this time and would welcome as much support from as possible.

I will be supporting a local Leicester based Charity ‘St Matthews Big Local’, the charity is working hard in one of the most deprived areas of Leicester

I am passionate about making a difference as I worked as a local beat officer for five years and could see the impact this charity made locally here in Leicester. I will also be running in memory of one of my colleagues PC Austin Jackson who sadly passed away in 2017, I am trying to raise £2246 which was also his collar number.

If you can donate something however small both the charity and I would be most grateful.’

Simon Johnson, Manager of St Matthews Big Local said, ‘We are really pleased that Nicky has agreed to support our charity this year by running the London Marathon. Our Charity like many others relies on kind donations to help cover our costs. Our local Police team have always been very supported of our work and it’s great that now Nicky has moved from the area he still has a passion and continues to make a difference in the area he served for many years. Last year we provided over 4,400 opportunities for support and we are hoping this fundraising campaign will be able to support many more people and deliver our vision locally’

St Matthews Big Local welcomes any donations that individuals or organisations can provide to support our charity.
